A SHORT STORY, THE UNIVERSITY AFFAIR

Episode 1, Season 1

Amanda attracted suitors from students to lecturers and general workers of the University, some of which had interesting personalities. At level 100, she had the highest G.P.A in her department which did not go unnoticed by her colleagues in her departments and other department, "unsolicited attention" she termed it. Amanda was your regular girl from a middle-class family, born into a family of 4, with her as the youngest. She has always been an introvert with few friends and only went out when necessary. Upon completion of secondary school, her parents knew she would have good grades so they bought university forms for her and were not surprised about her admission into the university to study communication studies.

Back on campus, as the second semester began, Amanda had gotten the attention of many not for her excellent grades but her beauty and it was no surprise to see men trying their luck with her. Kwame Afful, a level 200 pharmacy student, a brilliant one at that, approached her on her way to the hostel after one long sunny day of lectures. Kwame Afful passionately called by many as ‘’kwaful’’ was a tall, hairy, dark-skinned guy with almond eyes, pink lips and broad shoulders that got many fantasising about.  Amanda said hi to him to which they spoke for a while and later parted ways, she to her hostel and he, back to campus with a faint smile on each of their faces.

At the hostel, Amanda and her friend Esther, were preparing for their group studies on campus. Amanda was a petite dark-skinned beauty with upturned eyes and a turn up nose, endowed with medium sized breast and a beautiful set of white teeth. Unlike her friend, Amanda paid no attention to her outfit as she had on a pair of faded jeans with a turtle neck blouse to keep her warm whiles Esther with her bright and outgoing personality had on a cut-out jean with matching sandals to go with her jeans. As the girls approached campus guys tried getting their attention but to no avail.

Thanks to Esther they were late to group studies and this did not go unnoticed. Discussions began with the group leader giving members parts of the assignments to work on, that way everyone will have an idea of it and can contribute during the presentation should the lecturer randomly throw a question to the group. Deliberations came to a close with chatters all over by the members saying God knows what. Amanda was eager to leave but knew Esther would delay as she always does, she always wondered how Esther does it,

 "I mean Esther is not the smartest but she always got people talking to her’’ she wondered.

At the hostel, Esther notices Amanda smiling at herself sheepishly a few times which caught her by surprise because she knew her friend, and that certainly was out of character for her, so she decides to question her. Her question caught Amanda off guard and interrupted her daydreaming of Kwame Afful.

 "Did you hear the question, Mandy? I said what is the name of the guy who has you all smiling to yourself? That boy just did wonders on you, my friend."

Both girls laughed it off but Amanda was embarrassed by her friend finding out before she told her, maybe she needs to work on her poker face more, at least that will give her some relief from her friend's torture she thought.
